VOLUNTEERS who think they have what it takes to keep vulnerable people out of prison are being sought.
Prison Service Plus is a scheme overseen by the Swindon Volunteers umbrella group.
It involves mentors offering non-judgmental advice and support to offenders who may not feel they have anybody else to turn to.
In addition, volunteers may be called on to help with tasks such as preparing cvs and job applications and filling out benefit forms.
And as many offenders have or have had problems with drugs, mentors are often a source of advice, comfort and encouragement.
Existing volunteers come from a range of backgrounds.
They include former offenders wishing to help people with the same problems they once suffered to retired professionals with spare time.
Training and support will be given and anybody who feels they may have what it takes, or who wishes to find out more, should call Swindon Volunteers on 01793 420557.
The organisation also has details of many other volunteering opportunities in the area.
