I AM wondering if any of your more senior readers who have lived in the Marlborough area for some time can help me identify a particular house?
The property in question was called Granham House and was apparently situated two miles out of Marlborough.
It was a guest house run in the 1930s and early 1940s by a Miss Olive Jeans, the niece of the Astronomer Royal, and was "a beautiful 12-bedroom structure built in 1788".
It also had "splendid views across chalky downland to Savernake Forest several miles away".
The house is referred to in David Moreau's book 'More Wrestling than Dancing', which was also serialised on Radio Four.
I am also trying to locate it for the biographer of T E Lawrence's elder brother, who was very friendly with Miss Jeans.
