I AM sure, like Marlborough Town Council's concern about dog fouling in the area, there are many
readers who feel the same way.
As a dog owner for many years, I would agree, this behaviour is unacceptable and unnecessary. Dogs can be trained at a very early age and owners at any age. It is not necessary to go to the expense of 'scoops', nappy bags work very well. However, what to do with the "deposit" once collected is a different matter. Most bags find their way into litter bins in the total absence of dog litter bins.
It appears that like so many issues the council embarks on a project without fully researching it. Sunday parking charges were to be introduced without having first looked into the situation in depth, the Tourist Information Centre closed without any thought of the consequences. It might prove cheaper if the unit had been kept open.
When the dog fouling act was imposed did anyone consider how owners were meant to clear up? There is not one single dog litter bin in place using a litter bin may be acceptable but not if it is near a children's play area.
The lack of displays of local bylaws does not help are dogs the only creatures exempt form fouling public places?
Perhaps the council should consider having another look at the situation before trying to educate the public, as a dog warden once told me unless the rules are clear, even with a DNA test to identify the dog and its deposits, the law is unworkable.
