A CHIPPENHAM-BASED rail company has received an award from the industry's own version of the Oscars.

The Princess Royal presented Westinghouse Rail Systems Limited with an award for its part in the West Anglia Route Modernisation project.

The WARM Alliance, which also includes Network Rail, received the award in recognition of their successful £184 million, four-year rail modernisation programme.

As well as completing all five phases of the project on time and within budget, other works included 16 signal boxes transferred to the Liverpool Street Control Centre and 340 new signals installed.

"We are delighted to receive this reward in recognition of our hard work on this large-scale and complex project," said Westinghouse Rail Systems' managing director John Cotton.

"The project's success proves that joined up thinking is the key to delivering projects of this size on time, within budget and with minimal disruption to rail passengers."

Westinghouse and partners Balfour Beatty and Network Rail also received a high commendation from the judges of the Alstom Award for Innovation in Safety.
