FILM fans are set to get a transportable cinema screen shipped across from America.
Westbury Town Council has given the go-ahead for the £1,000 screen to be used at The Laverton to show Hollywood blockbusters.
The screen will be used primarily by the Westbury Area Cinema Club, which also puts on monthly films for other local clubs.
Town councillor Michelle Slade said: "We used to borrow a screen from John Bentley School in Calne but now, thankfully, the town will have its own screen.
"It has yet to be sent over from America and is specifically for the cinema club to use but will also help the town council with presentations and other clubs using The Laverton.
"The screen is amazing it looks tiny when you see it but as you open it, it just gets bigger and bigger."
Town Councillors agreed to buy the screen for £1,000 at the general purposes committee.
The club is also set to get a mobile cinema bankrolled by the town council but technical hitches have delayed the unveiling until September.
The £500,000 mobile cinema will include a 100-seat auditorium fitted in the back of a truck.
It is being built in France and when finished will be driven to rural areas across west Wiltshire, bringing with it the newest cinema releases.
The next showing held by Westbury Area Cinema Club will be Love Actually on April 24, from 2pm, at The Laverton.
