BROUGHTON Gifford and Rudloe make history tomorrow when they clash in the final of the Wiltshire Junior Cup at Corsham Town's ground.

It will be the first time two Trowbridge League sides have met in the final and only the second time in the 95 year history of the competition that two teams from the same league have featured.

Broughton Gifford are currently top of the Trowbridge League First Division while Rudloe are second.

The previous two meetings between the sides this season have ended in Gifford wins to give them the slight advantage.

And a win tomorrow will move Gifford closer to their target of achieving a historic quadruple this season, having already reached the finals of the A and B cup, where they will again meet Rudloe, the knockout cup and the league title.

They look odds on to sew up the league title after going through the whole campaign undefeated, conceding only nine goals in the process, but manager Stuart Irons is keeping his players' feet firmly on the ground.

Irons, 28, said: "I am confident about the game because of the way our season has gone so far.

"But the hard work is still all to be done. There is no point doing what we have done if we end up losing our next eight games and ending up with nothing.

"The club does hold the record for the most appearances in the final, having been in it six times before, but our incentive has to be to win all four competitions for the first time.

"There has always been a good team here with some very good players, including Steve Perrin, who is now at Forest Green Rovers, so to be the first to win the quadruple would be a brilliant achievement."

Irons has a full strength squad to pick from tomorrow, which he believes will be a big bonus.

He said: "I haven't been able to pick a proper side for the last six weeks because of unavailability so to get everyone back now is great timing.

"We should have the psychological edge over them having beaten them twice already and so they will feel they will have to change their tactics to beat us. This is my first season in management and it would be amazing if I could start by making a bit of history."

Rudloe are making their first ever appearance in a Wiltshire Junior Cup final tomorrow but they will have to do without their suspended player manager, Stuart Hynes.

Hynes, who has been at the club for 11 seasons, picked up a seven day ban after being sent off for dissent at Heytesbury earlier in the season and will have to stay in the technical area tomorrow.

The 27-year-old is in his first season as manager and he admits it is heartbreaking to miss tomorrow's showpiece.

He said: "When the chairman told me I was banned for this game I thought he was joking. It is extremely disappointing for me personally.

"But we have got another cup final and I will play in that so I just have to get on with it. The most important thing is the result.

Players to watch out for are Gifford midfielders Tom Staddon and John Hubbard and Rudloe striker Simon Gray and right midfielder Jason Walsh.
