I WOULD be grateful if you would allow me to respond to Mr McDonald's letter where he expressed his views about children playing football and having new facilities.
He also mentions that Matravers School will be turfing off the children of his club from the facilities at Redland Lane and that the club that he chairs will not have any facilities.
Mr McDonald should be made aware that until a few years ago, in Westbury, there was a well used playing field. Since 2000 it has been mutilated by the developer, Persimmon, and the district council. It contained two football pitches as well as dressing rooms on site. It is called Penleigh Park.
Mr McDonald's letter made me very annoyed. I contacted the district council and was told that the developer was due to start the contractual work on Penleigh Park on April 25, returning this area to a playing field for the local community.
So next season the children in Westbury will have replacement playing fields and a place to change and wash as well!
C SOUTHALL (MRS)
