WEST End musical legend Edmund Hockridge will entertain pensioners at the opening of a new retirement home in Trowbridge.
Canadian-born 'Ted' Hockridge, who had a string of hits in the 1950s and 1960s and became the first actor to take the leading roles in four consecutive West End shows, was due to perform at the official opening of McCarthy & Stone's Regal Court at midday today.
Making more than 1,000 appearances in musical smash-hit Carousel, 83-year-old Mr Hockridge will entertain residents with songs and stories from the world of showbiz.
Regal Court is a purpose-built development on Bythesea Road, with landscaped grounds, a guest suite, and a 24-hour call system.
Derek Field, managing director of McCarthy & Stone South West, said: "He is a terrific raconteur with more energy than some people half his age. We are honoured he should pay us a visit."
