WINDMILL FC manager Anthony Pascarella will be using the pain of defeat in last season's Adver Cup final as motivation to triumph in this year's showpiece.

Twelve months ago, Pascarella's team then known as 147 Club fell to a shock 2-0 reverse against underdogs Custom Homes.

Windmill start as favourites again ahead of tomorrow's clash with Westwood Contracts at Highworth's Elms Recreation Ground.

But Pascarella is warning against the complacency that cost them the 104-year-old trophy last time.

"This is the one we want," said the Windmill boss, who is ably assisted by Steve Werrell.

"We have won the Wiltshire Cup two years running and we really want to win the Adver Cup.

" We were very disappointed to lose in last year's final. We were expected to win but anything can happen in a final as we found out.

"We start as favourites again because we've beaten them (Westwood) three times already this season.

"But we are certainly not underestimating the opposition.

"We were dismal last year and that will definitely come into the team talk before the game.

"After last season we want to go out there and really go for it."

Success could be the first leg of a superb treble for Windmill.

They are currently neck and neck with Zurich in the Premier Division of the Swindon & District League and face Queenstown in the final of the Chairman's Trophy next weekend.

Windmill have built their success on a sound defensive unit this term, but the manager believes that much will depend on his front pairing of Ricky Mazzotta and Dean Parsons.

"Our defence has been good all season but our two strikers will be the key.

"When they play well they can be unstoppable."

Westwood might go into the tie as outsiders, but they have a secret weapon of their own ex-Swindon Town star Phil King.

Now 37, King is past his prime but still offers the odd moment of magic in a team packed with veterans.

Westwood manager Mel White said: "Phil's legs have gone a bit, but he's still got it upstairs in his head.

"At times this season he's come on as substitute and changed the game for us."

Despite boasting an ex-pro in their ranks, the Westwood coach admits the odds are against his side.

"Windmill start as favourites and rightly so," said White.

"They are a very good side and they are very good at the back.

"In our previous meetings this season we haven't put them under enough pressure hopefully we can change that.

"Eddie Gordon hasn't played against them in the three games we've had with them this season and he's a real handful.

Player-boss White, King and the rest of the over-30 brigade that make up the side have consolidated third position in the Premier Division, behind Windmill and Zurich.

Victory in the cup final will provide the perfect end for the club's more seasoned campaigners.

White added: "We do have a lot of experienced players and for many of them it's their last throw of the dice so hopefully they will be determined to go out with a bang."

THE Adver Cup final kicks off at 2.30pm at the Elms, Highworth.

The match is preceded, as usual, by the George Thomas Cup final between Manor and Wroughton, kick-off noon.
