TOWN stand on the verge of a 'magnificent achievement', but Andy King and his players are not about to settle for just a play-off place.
Automatic promotion is still seen as a realistic target to chase, even though the odds are stacked against a top-two finish.
Saturday's 3-0 win at Wycombe Wanderers leaves Town three points behind third-placed Bristol City and five points adrift of Queens Park Rangers, who currently occupy the second automatic promotion slot.
A play-off spot was the target set at the start of the campaign and King is delighted that Town are now within touching distance.
With 72 points already in the bag, a place in the end-of-season lottery is the least Town can look forward to.
However, an already happy manager feels there is nothing wrong with aiming that little bit higher.
He said: "The mood in the dressing room is one of 'can we catch those above us?'
"We have still got to go to Queens Park Rangers. Who knows?
"While anything is mathematically possible, you don't give up."
Should it prove a step too far, it will certainly not be seen as failure.
Of the play-off push, King said: "We are almost there. It is a magnificent achievement which has been done with nothing.
"By that, I mean it's been done with no money and a minimal squad.
"It has been a combination of things which has got us to this point.
"They include quality work, having three goalscorers and seeing young players come through and develop.
"The combination has produced a good team."
Defender Andy Gurney was on target in the victory over Wycombe, adding to earlier goals from Stefani Miglioranzi and Sam Parkin.
The 30-year-old, who tasted promotion with Reading as well as a play-off final with Torquay United, feels nerves of steel are now the order of the day.
He said: "There are going to be a lot more 'pressure' games coming up.
"We have to be mentally strong.
"If we can stay free of injuries I think we've got a great chance."
Town travel to Chippenham tonight in the final of the Wiltshire Premier Shield (7.30pm).
