Ref: 12805/1GAZETTE & HERALD: FIREFIGHTERS in Chippenham were not stuck for a solution on Monday when they were called out to a glue spillage near Ivy Lane School.
They were alerted after a white substance was seen on the pavement at lunchtime.
The substance was found to had leaked from a small 20-litre drum, which firefighters believe had fallen off a vehicle.
Fire crews from Chippenham, Corsham and Warminster attended the scene as a precaution until the substance had been identified.
Assistant Divisional Officer Rob Wild said part of the road was closed off for safety reasons. The substance was finally identified as white PVA adhesive, a type of industrial glue.
"We put it into bags and into an drum for removal by the district council," he said.
The pavement was hosed down and all of the glue was removed.
