TOMMY MOONEY wants to stay at the County Ground and admits he would be 'very disappointed' if he found himself anywhere else for the 2004-5 campaign.

The 32-year-old is focused on helping Town complete a successful promotion push but has had an informal chat with Andy King about his future.

Happiness rather than divisional status appears to be the striker's key criteria and Mooney has had plenty to smile about this season, having netted 20 goals so far and built up a tremendous rapport with the supporters .

He said: "I'm delighted with the way the season has gone and it has shown that I made the right decision to come here.

"The gaffer and I have had a couple of chats.

"He has said he'd like me to stay and that means a great deal to me. I'd like to stay."

Nothing can be taken for granted in football but Mooney knows what he wants and added: "Put it this way, I'd be very disappointed if I wasn't a Swindon Town player next season."

However, the former Watford and Birmingham man is not about to become distracted by contract issues with the small matter of a play-off place to cement.

Mooney agrees with his manager that opportunities in football should be taken when they come along.

He said: "We have a fantastic chance for success here. If you are going to win the play-offs it's a massive help if you go into them in form.

"I suppose you could say it's a nerve-jangling time but it's also an exciting time. The prospect of the play-offs excites me and I'm sure I'm not alone in that."

The search for the Evening Advertiser/Swindon Town FC Player of the Year 2004 kicks off today and Mooney is expected to be among the front runners.

He said: "The fact that you can think of several contenders off the top of your head has to be a good sign for the club."

Mooney is also on the short list for the PFA Fans' Division Two player of the year award.

The striker was due to make an 'award' of his own today at Swindon's Great Western Hospital.

Earlier in the campaign, rather than accept the £250 which accompanies the club's own player of the month award, Mooney decided to donate the money to the children's ward.
