CHIPPENHAM striker Sam Allison had mixed emotions after being recalled to the first team in the defeat at Hednesford.

The former Salisbury and Paulton Rovers player was pleased to be back in the first 11 but admitted he was frustrated by the 4-1 defeat.

"I don't actually think Hednesford were that strong at the back and if we could have got an early goal we could have dented their confidence," he said.

"Going into half-time 1-0 down we still thought we were in the game but I think we needed to break forward with better quality and more numbers at times. When you get a bad result like a 6-1 your confidence is low. We started a bit low and the early goal was another knock.

"But to be fair we've got a good bunch of lads and I think we can still come through."

Allison called on his team-mates to rally round and get the maximum six points from their last two games.

"If we can try and get the six points it would be good although we might still be relying on other teams," added Allison.

"We have made it hard for ourselves. We beat the top teams like Weymouth but maybe we needed to grind out results better against the lower teams."

Allison hopes he will hold onto his place in the team but said the team making it into the Conference Two had to come before individual ambitions.

"Personally I was pleased to have got a start on Saturday. Steve is great with all the lads anyway so even if you are on the bench you feel like you feel just as involved," he added.

"To be honest I would have taken not being in the side if we had got the win. But obviously I'm glad to be in the team and have got a run out.

"Hopefully I will get a chance in the next couple of games and maybe get a goal. Now we have got to pick ourselves up. We can't dwell on the results. We've got to be men and turn round and try and get back to winning ways."
