CHARLIE Griffin had a night to remember when he captained Chippenham against his old club Swindon Town and inspired their Wiltshire Premier Shield final victory.
The 24-year-old, who scored two goals in eight starts during two years at the County Ground, scored one and made the other in the Bluebirds' 2-0 win on Monday. Griffin admitted he had enjoyed the night and now hopes the result will boost Chippenham's confidence as they go into their crucial last two league fixtures.
"It was a great result for us," he said. "After we had those disappointing two results this is a nice little win and we can hopefully build on towards Saturday now. I thought the performance was very professional from us. We set our stall out early because they are a very good team and are professionals.
"They are in every day training and had some very strong youth lads out there and some first teamers that are on the fringe. Swindon put out a very strong line-up but we prepared well and in the end it was very good.
"We were very professional and we also got a nice clean sheet as well."
Griffin was in the thick of the action for much of the game and being made captain was the icing on the cake.
"It was nice night for me being skipper against my old club," he said. "The manager asked if I wanted to be skipper and I said 'yeah of course'. The goal was nice and I set up one as well so it was a good evening for me."
Griffin now hopes his team-mates can build on their improved performance in the cup final when they face Moor Green at home on Saturday.
"It's a massive boost for us going into the last two games of the season," he continued.
"After the last two games that we have lost everyone has been very down. I think the boys have taken it very hard because it is not nice losing 6-1 and 4-1.
"Against Swindon we have won 2-0 and kept a clean sheet which is good. We can go on now and bring on Moor Green on Saturday.''
