PLAYER-manager Stuart Irons fired in an extra-time penalty to lift the Wiltshire Junior Cup for a fourth time for Broughton Gifford in an action-packed final against Division One title rivals Rudloe.

A crowd of around 250 at Corsham Town's Southbank ground, witnessing the first final between two Trowbridge League sides in 107 years, saw Chris Stiles head Gifford into a 21st-minute lead only for Jason Walsh to equalise three minutes later.

Substitute Tom Smith headed Rudloe into the lead on the hour.

But nine minutes from time Richard Clarke forced extra time direct from a corner.

In the 95th minute Stiles won a penalty which substitute Irons converted but even then it took a fantastic one-handed save from Gifford keeper Kevin Challis to prevent Craig Gingell from equalising.

Despite six bookings, the final was a great credit to the league but it was marred when substitutes Kevin Streeter for Rudloe and Gifford's Steve Burns were dismissed in the first period of extra time.

In the league, Castle Combe's fifth straight win through Jamie Winks (2) and an own goal at the Deverills makes Tuesday's visit to Rudloe an important one for silverware.

A Kirk Latham hat-trick for deposed champions Frome Town Sports sank Blue Circle who bid farewell to Division One with a 4-2 home reverse.

A hat-trick of victories in five days over their promotion rivals has taken North Bradley Saints to the brink of the Division Two title.

After midweek wins over Bradford and Trowbridge United, two more goals from Chris Fardell, including a penalty, helped Saints beat Hilperton United 5-3.

Steve Bryant, an own goal and George McGuire put Bradford's promotion bid back on track with a 3-0 win at relegation threatened Steeple Ashton, but Trowbridge remain favourites to finish as runners-up after 6-4 success over Bratton, Jamie Young notching a hat-trick for Trowbridge with Marc Lanfear repeating the feat at the other end.

Dursley Arms' relegation plight continued with a 3-0 defeat at Warminster Town Reserves, where Tom Foord, Dave Watkins and Ben Deacon were on target.

Bottom side Laverton and Easterton scored a shock 4-1 win at Deverills Reserves after trailing at the interval.
