Wiltshire's young music stars of the future will play alongside members of Jools Holland's band at a festival celebrating jazz.

The search is on for the county's finest young jazz musicians, who will be performing at the Wiltshire Youth Jazz Festival at Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford on Avon on May 3.

Youngsters aged between 10 and 18 who have reached Grade 3 or above are welcome to apply for a place at the workshops and final concert.

The dynamic Wiltshire Youth Jazz Orchestra will play an entertaining mix of styles, from swing, funk and Latin music to hip-hop and jazz standards.

The young musicians are working with two members of Jools Holland's band, saxophonist Pete Long and trumpeter Mark Armstrong.

The concert is being organised by Wiltshire County Council's music service in association with Jazz Factory, which organises open access workshops at the Wiltshire Music Centre on Monday evenings.

The event is sponsored by John Packer's, a music shop based in Taunton. For tickets call (01225) 860100.

Wiltshire Youth Jazz Orchestra will also be performing at this year's Marlborough Jazz Festival.

Workshop application forms are available from school heads of music or by phoning (01225) 755439, and must be sent in by April 26.
