SHERSTON Town celebrated winning the Premier Division title in the Vanitec-Computers-sponsored Chippenham Sunday League with a comfortable away win over Terry's FC.
The 7-3 victory extended the new champions' 100 per cent away record this season.
Andy Wicks opened the scoring in the third minute and from then on it was almost all one way traffic in the first period, although Dominic Gorton and Dean Gumm had chances to score for Terry's before Wicks fired home number two for Sherston before they went on to take a 5-1 advantage at the break with Wicks completing his hat-trick and Jack Lee adding the other two.
Russell Stritch prodded home Terry's effort after stand-in goalkeeper Anthony Vizard had spilled the ball at his feet. In the second period Terry's hit back at Sherston who replaced Vizard in goal with Andy Wicks whose error led to Stritch rifling home his second from 40 yards.
Ross Pugh added a third for Terry's but despite their mini revival, further goals from Allan Webb and Anthony Vizard made sure the comeback was only temporary. Sherston could have added an eighth when they were awarded a penalty. John Wilkins, who had not scored all season, insisted on taking it and to his embarrassment he knocked the ball against the upright.
Box Rovers claimed only their third win in 13 outings as they put daylight between themselves and opponents All Cannings FC in the table.
Rovers' return to form was achieved with out the services of Tom Smith who suffered a broken jaw while playing for Rudloe in the Wiltshire Junior Cup final the previous day. Rovers eased home to a 6-1 win and it was Smith's playing partner Tim Jefferies who led the scoring with four. Jason Walsh and Andy Price added the others while Paul Hiscocks replied for Cannings.
Division One
BIDDESTONE Social have been crowned Division One champions without kicking a ball after Maud Heath Sports' 2-2 draw with West End Wanderers means that they can no longer deprive John O'Meara's team of a deserved title.
West End Wanderers turned up at Christie Miller, Melksham, only to find that the goal posts from all three pitches had been already taken down with three weeks of the season still to play.
After a few phones calls, the game was hastily rearranged to Calne where the Wanderers took a two goal lead through Tony Kelly and Dave Macey, who scored from the penalty spot.
Sports, who needed to win to have any hope of stealing the title from Biddestone, hit back with two late goals from Justin King but in the end it proved not to be enough
The best Maud Heath can hope for now is that they can hold off the challenge of Trowbridge Harriers who are sneaking up on the rails in the hope of taking the runners-up spot.
Atworth United entertained Trowbridge Harriers and, despite battling back to overturn a 3-1 deficit to lead 4-3, they were unable to hold on to what they had as the Harriers hit back in the final 10 minutes to earn a 6-4 victory.
A Stuart Barber double, plus Stuart Donohoe's solo effort, helped Semington Rovers build a 3-0 lead over The Horse and Groom who hit back with goals from Simon Hillman and Graham Hunter to reduce the gap to one before Barber completed his hat-trick with Semington's fourth goal and in spite of Chris Fenwick's first ever goal in senior football the Horse were unable to complete a comeback as they suffered a 4-3 loss.
Mark Barnett was Wingfield's hat-trick hero in their 3-0 home victory over Chippenham Sports and Social Club.
Division Two
TWO victories in six days saw Corsham Centre extend their 100 per cent record to 19 games and, having already lifted the WG Parr Trophy, they are now odds on favourites to add the Second Division title to their collection of silverware.
The Centre picked up two points from their 8-1 midweek win over Roadrunners FC as Simon Gray (3), Craig Gingell (2), Liam Ralph, Luke Denham and Scott Lye shared the goals that took them to win number 18. Lee Kelty hit the losers' consolation.
Next up for the Centre was Holt FC who had an impressive midweek win of their own when the defeated fellow promotion hopefuls North Star A 2-0, thanks to two strikes from Tom Pang whose goals came either side of the interval.
Pang dipped a 30 yard free kick under the bar for his first on the stroke of half-time and moments after the game restarted he volleyed home a Neil Grant free kick which gave Holt hope of getting back in the race for the title.
That was ended on Sunday by a rampant Corsham Centre side who despite conceding three goals courtesy of a brilliant Tom Pang hat-trick, which took his tally for the season to 48, they hit seven goals of their own to leave Holt wondering what had hit them.
James Lye led the way with four, Simon Gra and Liam Ralph and Kevin Brown added the others for the champions elect who are just five wins away from finishing the season with an incredible 100 per cent record.
North Bradley defeated Blue Circle Saints 5-1. Gary Brooks scored twice, Matt Coles and Chris Sadd added one apiece as did Adam Brown who could have hit double figures had he had his shooting boots on. Shaun Sheppard replied for Blue Circle.
Tim Knight's 20 yard free kick and a brace from second half substitute Steve Cleverly earned Spencer Sports a 3-0 win over Christian Malford, who were playing their final game of the campaign.
Steeple Ashton played hosts to Roadrunners FC although it should have been the latter's home fixture and their hospitality was rewarded when they hit 20 without reply against a side that will be glad to see the back of this season.
Adam Sheppard led the way with seven, his brother Marc was just one behind with six, Brin Holt and Dave Bradbeer helped with two each while Paul Ford, Nathan Holloway and Matt Winsor's penalty took the total to 20.
Division Three
PARSONS Nose look on course to clinch the title after they defeated Potterne 3-2.
Taff Evans side were trailing 1-0 at the break to a Ben Giles' goals but they clawed they way back into the game through Wayne Bailey who knocked home the equaliser three minutes after the restart. Two minutes later Mark James put the champions elect 2-1 up and just after the hour mark Wayne Bailey drove home a 20 yard free kick to double the Melksham side's advantage. Although Johnny Emm pulled another back for Potterne, Parsons Nose held their nerve to secure the all important win.
Four Seasons kept alive their slims hopes of beating Parsons Nose to the title after a thrilling comeback saw them overturn a 3-1 deficit to snatch a dramatic 4-3 victory over Westbury Rangers B at Meadow Lane on Thursday night.
Dave Chamberlain's first goal of the season put Rangers in front, only for Marcus Young to level. Goals from youngsters Tim Combes and Lee Griffin saw Rangers take command and at 3-1 they looked en-route to record a shock win.
The Seasons hit back with a second from Marcus Young to reduce the gap and they tied the scores with Paul Maddox's 18th goal of the campaign.
With 10 minutes remaining the game was held up for 20 minutes following an injury to the Seasons' Jason Cole.
The incident also saw Rangers' Matthew Gardiner dismissed for his clumsy challenge, but thankfully for Cole he was able to return to Chippenham with the rest of his side.
When the game restarted the Four Seasons took advantage of their extra man and thanks to their unlikely hero Alan Farnish they stole both points. Farnish's winner two minutes from time was also his first goal of the season.
To win the title Dave Austin's team must win both of their remaining matches, against Cooper-Avon and Bradstone Rovers, and hope that Parsons Nose suffer defeat against Westbury Rangers B when they meet on May 2.
In a game of little importance with both Westbury Rangers B and Bradstone Rovers safe from relegation, it was Rangers who triumphed over their rivals as a Lee Griffin double and one from Sam Gooding earned them a 3-1 win. Pete Green replied for Bradstone.
Division Four
GOALS from John Little and Richard Thorne, his first since October, were unable to prevent KSM from losing 4-2 against Bear Casuals, who gave up home advantage to reverse the match to Yatton Keynall.
Chris Bishop slid home the Bear's opener which was followed by Andy Sayer's first of the game. Lee Jackson scored the Bear's third from a yard out before Sayer headed home his second of the game and the Bear's fourth.
The final of the PPL Presto Print-sponsored Knockout Cup between Premier Division champions Sherston Town and Second Division North Star A is to be held on Sunday at Bradford Town, kick-off 3pm.
