PEWSEY recorded one of their best results of the season as they put last year's champions North Leigh to the sword.

Steve Wootton's side have had a tough season struggling at the wrong end of the table. But they managed to produce an all-round excellent 90-minute performance to pick up a valuable three points.

Wootton said: "The only complaint I suppose I could have is why haven't we played like that all season?"

Pewsey went ahead in the 24th minute when Matty Messenger played Craig Wall through and he coolly slotted the ball between the legs of goalkeeper Kevin Alder.

But the visitors levelled in the 38th minute when defender Martin Churchward mistimed a clearance leaving Robbie Wyatt the chance to lob the ball in.

Great teamwork put Vale back in the lead. Wall received a long pass from Dave Hopkins and he in turn found Messenger who volleyed past Alder. Pewsey went two up when Hopkins found Micky Goodwin who lobbed over the defence for Messenger to run on and score.

Substitute Barry Flippance added a fourth in the 80th minute.
