GAZETTE & HERALD: A SEMINAR which will discuss all aspects of urban regeneration, will be held in Calne Library next Wednesday.
The interactive seminar will be hosted by Aaron Evans Architects who designed the award winning library, supported by landscape architects Nicholas Pearson Associates and IMA Transport Planning.
The event will look at how to design, develop and implement a successful urban regeneration scheme. The library will be a key example in the seminar of a benchmark design.
The library recently won a British Urban Regeneration Association Award for Best Practice.
Townspeople and planners attending the meeting will be encouraged to share their views and debate ideas.
The library will be used as a focal point to highlight the scheme's evolution and the lessons learnt during its design and development.
Mr Evans said: "Urban regeneration schemes can help to reverse the decline in towns and cities which have been worst hit by the demise of Britain's industrial and manufacturing economy by attracting employment, tourism and trade into the area. These schemes represent a key challenge for the 21st century."
The library building is part of a development of 22 houses, 20 flats and nine retail units on the site of the former Harris meat-processing factory in The Strand.
Until the 1980s the Harris factory dominated the town centre and employed 2,000 people.
After its closure in 1983 the district council acquired the land and began the first phase of redevelopment.
Anyone wishing to attend the seminar should contact Rachel Willcox on (01225) 444364.
