The hard work of Parks and Walcot team Rector Rob Burles has been recognised by the Diocese of Bristol.
The Rev Burles, who took over the parish seven years ago, is to be installed as an honorary Canon at a ceremony in Bristol Cathedral next month.
But he believes the award belongs to parishioners as much as it does to him. "It is a great honour," he said. "I consider that it isn't just mine, it is shared with the congregation here in Parks and Walcot. Whatever we have achieved, we have achieved it together."
The honorary title was given in recognition of his efforts to improve the finances of the parish, make the best use of the buildings and bring in new worshippers. A coach-load of parishioners will be travelling to Bristol to see him receive the award during the evening service on May 9.
