IN response to David Room's comments (EA, April 14) it has become popular to label anyone who objects to a development as a Nimby.

It's a convenient label which ignores the fact that sometimes the people making the objections are doing so simply because the plans are wrong. Never mind the newts and the toxic waste I wonder if David has ever visited the area in question? The proposed dual carriageway is needed already, just to cope with the existing local traffic.

Will he really be so keen on the new site after sitting in a traffic jam for an hour just to get to the ground? And when he finally gets there, on a nice warm summer's afternoon, will he actually enjoy the stench or the swarms of small black flies that regularly emerge from the sewage farm just a few yards away? Town saw what they thought was a large piece of cheap brownfield land, and I don't blame them for thinking it was ideal for their needs. But it isn't ideal. And it isn't even brownfield it is officially designated as greenfield.

Swindon has a history of making big mistakes by trying to do developments on the cheap. Town's new ground shouldn't be another one.
