CHIPPENHAM travelled to Oakmedians for their final South West Two game which would be the game to decide the team to finish in fourth place in the league.
Chippenham fielded a much changed side from last week's victory over Trowbridge.
Chippenham started off strongly and playing against a strong wind, they had the better of the early exchanges.
After three minutes, Oakmedians kicked a penalty as Chippenham were penalised for using a boot in a ruck.
Twenty minutes later Oakmedians broke away but lost the ball and the ensuing counter-attack from Chippenham resulted in winger Darren McMillan scoring from 35 metres out. Going in at half-time, Chippenham had a slender 3-5 lead.
After the restart, an effective catch and drive lineout from the Chippenham forwardss, full-back David Spiers finished off a well-executed backs move out wide. Ten minutes into the second half, centre Gary Champion released winger Matt Towl on the blindside who went over to score in the corner.
Chippenham then took their foot off the gas and allowed Oakmedians back into the game with a try following a short period of pressure on the Chippenham defence.
Five minutes later, Oakmedians sucked in Chippenham's back-line leaving the home side with an overlap which their centre took advantage of to score. 13-17.
Chippenham were then awarded a penalty kick which scrump-half Andy Williamson kicked followed by another try from winger Matt Towl who scored off the left wing. 13-25.
Fly-half Dan Reynolds scored an oppportunist try after some great defensive pressure resulted in the ball being spilled. Williamson added the conversion. With Oakmedians scoring a late consolation try, a 20-32 scoreline gave Chippenham the victory and the much needed points.
Coach John Rumble said: "This will give us a few tough selection decisions for next week's Bath Combination Cup semi-final at Walcot.''
