The developers of the Roundway Mill site, for 30 to 60 houses (sic), are engaged in a public consultation exercise on the proposal, and I thought it could be of interest to readers to know the response of the Trust for Devizes, making two points:
The number of units proposed appears to be greatly in excess of that so bitterly established in the Inspector's Inquiry into the Kennet Local Plan. This seems to conflict with logic and with natural justice.
On traffic impacts, it is not clear on what grounds the traffic capacity of London Road has been calculated in the Highway Authority's response to the proposals. No modelling of Devizes traffic has been undertaken for some years. They recently opposed two dwellings elsewhere in Devizes on trip generation grounds. It is
important that the impact of the Roundway Mill proposals be modelled together with those of all the other proposals affecting London Road (not before them or in isolation) in order that the results be demonstrated to be acceptable.
We shall need to be satisfied on these matters if we are not to oppose the proposals.
