A GROUP of men posing as professional road surfacing workers called at a house in Dilton Marsh last week and tried to charge a woman nearly £2,000 to tarmac her drive.
Police are warning residents to be on their guard after the men told the woman they had just finished working on the A36 and were from the council.
She refused to let them start the work and they said they would return the next day.
After calling the council the resident confirmed they were not official employees and they never returned.
PC Lee Poolman of Westbury Police said: "We want to warn residents not to agree to have work done by people who turn up at the door and to always contact reputable companies. These people who call like this usually inflate the cost of the work and don't do the job to a decent standard. People can always call the police if they have any callers like this."
