MR McDonald's letter touches a raw nerve with me and many others who do not want to see houses on the Penleigh Park playing fields.
These playing fields were obtained for the community by people like me and others of my generation who lived in the then Penleigh Park/Oldfield Park estate.
Could I offer a solution to the problem and provide the facilities the correspondent appears to want? This was suggested at the last cabinet meeting at WWDC. Sell off the Leighton Recreation ground.
The district council will get a lot more for this site than they would ever dream about getting for Penleigh Park. We would end up with a lot more facilities because there would be a lot more money available and, from a point of sheer convenience, all the sports facilities in Westbury would be together.
My only hope is as a result of this suggestion the people who live by Leighton might understand how we feel.
