A CONCERT held at the ghost village of Imber on Salisbury Plain is to be screened on television.

The film, combining archive footage and live music recorded at the village, will be broadcast next month.

Over 160 residents were evacuated from Imber in 1943 to allow for military training and remains army property to this day.

The concert took place in August 2003 with music from Georgian composer Giya Kanchelli and the show has already been aired in Russia and Sweden.

Mark Kidel, writer and film-maker, said: "In many ways the evacuation of Imber is a small-scale event, especially when seen in the context of European history, but it provides an opportunity, on an intimate scale, to reflect on the relationship between memory and place, as well as the casualties of war."

The film, called Imber, will be broadcast on BBC Four on May 10 and includes testimonies from former villagers.

In last week's Wiltshire Times we referred to Cllr John Syme as chairman of Forever Imber, in fact he is chairman of Friends of Imber, which is a separate organisation.
