WESTBURY has grown at a tremendous rate over the last few years but the facilities, particularly for young people, leave much to be desired.
Our current sporting amenities are so woefully substandard that we cannot host visiting young football teams. The changing facilities are almost non-existent and we have no showers or toilets.
We now have the opportunity, via a land swap deal, to acquire over 50 acres of all-weather sports, cricket, football and rugby pitches.
Changing rooms and a clubhouse would be provided. The children's play area at Oldfield Park would also be improved and extended. The land designated for the new sports pitches is on the other side of the western distributor road, therefore the plans would have to include ways in which this busy main road could be crossed in safety.
There are always pros and cons to every situation and opinion in Westbury is often geographically divided.
However, whether one lives in Leigh Park, Oldfield Park, Studland Park or Bitham Park, we are all residents of Westbury. I think that this important decision should be taken for the benefit of the majority.
