Your readers should not be misled by the inaccuracies and fantasies in Angela Milroy's letter in last week's Times in which she writes of "asset stripping" the county town.

The facts are: the county council is not proposing to move the County Youth Services to Devizes. We have, in fact, established the Youth Development Service as a core and important strategic part of the schools branch and the headquarters staff will remain in County Hall.

We have taken the opportunity to bring together the operational managers who were previously based, somewhat in isolation, across the county to enable them to work more effectively and efficiently together.

We have no intention to downgrade County Hall. In fact as a town councillor Ms Milroy should be aware that we have offered accommodation to the town council and I can assure Wiltshire residents that County Hall will continue to be the centre of local government in Wiltshire.

The county council fully supports the plans for the re-development of Trowbridge town centre and will continue to do all it can to make it a success.

In this respect it is important for all sectors of local government to work together and consult with each other rather than to go into print with unfounded, misleading and unhelpful statements.
