STEVE WHITE collected his first piece of silverware as a manager this week, but it will mean nothing if his Chippenham Town team fail to beat visiting Moor Green tomorrow.

A 2-0 victory over a decent Swindon Town reserve side handed the Bluebirds the Wiltshire Premier Shield on Monday night and proved a welcome tonic following two disastrous league defeats that have pushed the club back into the Premier Division's bottom four.

Chippenham looked a safe bet for a place in the play-offs for Conference Two prior to a 6-1 thumping from Dorchester and last weekend's 4-1 reverse at Hednesford.

Most of Town's play-off rivals have found some form, leaving White's team needing maximum points tomorrow and at Hinckley on the last day to stand any real chance of escaping the bottom four and effective relegation.

"We have to win on Saturday, it's as simple as that," said White.

"We need three points so that we can go into the last game of the season with something to play for.

"The last two league games have been really disappointing and I want to see a reaction to that.

"The win over Swindon should give us a confidence boost. We did very well to against a team of professionals."

The side that contested the Shield final was largely makeshift, but some impressive performances from several understudies has given White food for thoughT ahead of his selection duties.

Wayne Thorne, Andy Robertson and Sam Allison all gave themselves a chance of another start.

Much will depend on the fitness of three key men who sat out the Swindon victory.

Mark Badman and Tom Gould are still struggling with hamstring strains and Scott Walker has a dead leg.

Badman is the biggest doubt, while the other two are expected to pass fitness tests.

White's decision to switch from a 3-5-2 formation to a 4-4-2 on Monday also had a favourable impact, but the Bluebirds boss refused to be drawn on who or how he will play tomorrow.

Said White: "It's not about formations or personnel it's about our performance on the day."
