CHIPPENHAM NEWS EXCLUSIVE: THIS is a photograph of the house where suspected killer Ian Cortis was found hanging.

The twice-convicted rapist hanged himself in the loft of a house in Woodsage Way, Calne, on Friday the same day police found the body of Amanda Edwards.

It is believed owner Roosevelt Mings allowed his daughter, Cortis' wife Villette, to stay there after she left her husband two weeks ago.

The three-bedroom semi detached house, which was cordoned off and searched by police on Friday night, was on the market for nearly £150,000 and is currently being sold to a woman living in Hill Martin.

Independent estate agents Charles Faye, based in Calne, is dealing with the sale and senior negotiator Chrissy French, 27, said: "Mr Mings is the vendor and his son-in-law killed himself. The property had been empty since last July but a couple of weeks ago his daughter moved in.

"Mr Mings is lovely it's such a shame this has happened to him. He phoned and told us what happened and seemed gutted.

"It's a bit spooky to think that I've been around that house and that I've got to know the property and people involved."

Mrs French said the sale of the house was still going through.

"She (the buyer) has heard what's happened but is still going through with it. I don't know whether she'll change her mind when it sinks in."

Neighbours living near the house in Calne confirmed Villette had only been living on the estate for a couple of weeks and had seen Amanda in the town.

Margaret Richardson, 62, of nearby Springfield Drive, Calne, said: "It's such an awful shame. I think I've seen the young lady (Amanda) in Calne. I recognised her face but I didn't know her.

"It's a tragedy someone so young has died."
