SWINDON Asians lifted the Junior Division 2 title after hanging on for a precious point against New College.

Trax lead the way at the top of the division on goal difference at the start of the day but Asians, needing just a single point to clinch the title, earned a 0-0 draw at Ballards Ash.

Runners-up therefore were Trax with Blyskawica, who beat Westside Reserves 12-1, finishing third.

Long-time leaders New College finished the season back in fourth place.

In the race for the Premier Division title, AFC Stratton pulled clear of arch-rivals Trowbridge Town after a 2-0 win over Chiseldon Castrol.

Stratton boss Stef Kucynski said: "We just have to keep winning and put the pressure on Trowbridge.

"They dropped a couple of points in midweek and the strain of playing three times a week may be getting to them.

"I thought we were the better side against Castrol, who battled well, and although it wasn't a classic it was three more points."

Gareth Davies emerged the Stratton hero, scoring direct from a corner and then climbing above the Castrol defence to head in a second before the break.

After the break, Castrol tried hard to get back into the game but never really looked like breaking through the home defence.

Purton Reserves played out of their skin against Trowbridge Town in the semi final of the Corsham Print Senior Cup but, despite taking the lead twice, were beaten 3-2 by a goal in extra time.

Purton took the lead courtesy of Darren Brown's strike. But that was cancelled out almost immediately when a good cross from Gavin Eyre was headed into the net by Chris Gittens.

Soon after the break, Purton regained the lead when Trowbridge defender Dan Barnes put through his own net under pressure from Purton's Sam Collier during a goalmouth scramble.

But Trowbridge struck back straight from the restart when another good cross from Eyre was headed into his own net by a Purton defender to send the tie into extra time.

Midway through the first period central defender Mike Little, who had failed to score in his role as a striker in the last two games, moved forward to net the winner and give his side a place in the final against local rivals Bradford Town.

Trowbridge manager Neil Kirkpatrick said he was delighted to get to the final and praised three of his teenage players, drafted into the side because of injuries.

He said: "The two 17-year-olds Chris Gittens and goalkeeper John Berryman did well but I thought the man of the match for us was 16-year-old Adam Shackell. He had a great game.

"It was a tough game and Purton played well and made it difficult for us, it was a good close tie.

Trowbridge now face a busy week with games against Corsham Town in the final of the Wiltshire Senior Cup on Tuesday, a league clash with Malmesbury Victoria on Wednesday and the final of the Corsham Print Cup against Bradford on Saturday.

Cricklade were beaten by a last-minute goal at Biddestone, the home side running out 3-2 winners.

Ian Ross gave Cricklade an interval lead but soon after the restart Jamie Lyons struck to level the scores.

Biddestone were then awarded a disputed penalty when Nick Fielding was adjudged to have been brought down in the box. Tim Tasker converted the spot kick.

Cricklade fought back and Ross netted his second to bring the sides level but they were denied a point when Don Charman struck with a last-minute effort.

Cricklade boss Graham Jackson thought his side played well and didn't deserve to lose.

He said: "It was good game and Biddestone are a good side but I thought we were a bit unlucky."

Marlborough Town rounded off their season with an impressive 4-0 win over Corsham thanks to two goals from Neil Robinson and one each from Daniel Sly and Justin Guinerie.

There was nothing between the teams at Sherston where the home side ran out 2-1 winners following a strike by John Mills ten minutes from time. Earlier Steve Rogers had rounded the Bradford keeper to put United in front and Robbie Simmons with a near post header had sent the sides in at the break a goal apiece.

AFC Stratton Reserves travelled to Biddestone and ran out winners 6-0 with Mark Smith, Steve Stewart, Gavin Wilkie, Scott Rouse, Rich Carter and an own goal doing the damage.

Westside manager Joe O'Rourke rolled back the years when he left the subs bench and played 70 minutes in the 2-2 draw against Wootton Bassett United.

Blunsdon United led at half time with a goal from Phil Leppard but visitors Calne Town equalised midway through the second half with a strike from Rob Fry.

Wroughton Reserves were two down against Ferndale Rodbourne after just 10 minutes, Willie McMahon and Steve Marriott on target.

But in a spirited fight back, Michael Wilson reduced the arrears and 15-year-old Carl Shepherd salvaged a point with a strike inside the last five minutes.
