A JAMES CONSTABLE hat-trick helped Chippenham to their biggest league win of the season and ensured the Bluebirds go into the final day of the season with a hope of claiming a Conference Two play-off spot.
Constable, dubbed Beano by the Chippenham faithful, fired a superb opportunist treble as visiting Moor Green were battered at Hardenhuish Park.
Manager Steve White was bold enough to leave some big guns on the bench and kept faith with the starting 11 that claimed the Wiltshire Premier Shield against Swindon last Monday.
Constable was back up front after a stint at right-wing back and he took less than 10 minutes to show what the Bluebirds have been missing in attack during their recent slump.
Wayne Thorne fired a cross into the Moor Green box, Charlie Griffin nodded the ball back across goal and Constable headed home.
It was 2-0 on 20 minutes as the teenage striker doubled his tally.
Rene Regis' throughball deflected into Constable's path and his flicked finish from 12 yards beat keeper Matt Harris and nestled in the bottom corner of Moor Green's net.
Jae Martin rattled the crossbar at the other end as the away side threatened to reduce arrears.
The Chippenham goal came under further threat at the start of the second half but Martin headed wide from inside the six-yard box.
Griffin then blazed over at the other end when clean through and substitute Scott Walker scorched the goalframe with a typically searing left-foot drive.
Peter Faulds then shot straight at Town keeper Mark Hervin from two yards out before Chippenham effectively sealed a vital win on 66 minutes.
Ellis Wilmot was released by Regis and the midfielder surged into the box before Guy Sanders chopped him down.
Griffin stepped up and netted from the spot despite calls from the terraces for Constable to take the kick for his hat-trick.
But the Hardenhuish faithful were celebrating their hero's treble five minutes later.
Simon Charity split the Moor Green defence, Constable muscled past marker Barry Williams and sent a clinical lob over the advancing Moor Green keeper.
Town complete their quest for a play-off spot at Hinckley next Saturday needing to win and relying on slip ups from two of their three rivals Dover, Hednesford and Bath.
Manager Steve White was happy to end the home campaign on a high and is praying results go in his team's favour next weekend.
"It was a good win," he said. "It gives us the chance to go into the last game with something to play for and it was nice to finish the home programme on a high.
"We've had a couple of bad results in the league lately but the players responded in an emphatic way.
"It's out of our hands now but we've got to win our final game and hope other results go our way."
CHIPPENHAM: Hervin, Regis, Thorne, Davidson, Robertson, Chrity, Horgan, Wilmot, Griffin, Constable, Allison. Subs: Badman, Herring, Paul, Towler, Walker.
SCOTT PARTRIDGE scored a hat-trick for the second weekend in a row to leave Bath City within sight of the play-offs.
Partridge hit three in the 4-1 win at Havant to leave the Romans needing to beat Welling on the last day to make sure of their place.
Former Chippenham defender Nathan Rudge scored twice for Tiverton in their 6-4 defeat at Cambridge.
The Devon side now find themselves in a play-off position after occupying an automatic promotion spot for most of the season.
Crawley were formally presented with the Premier Division shield but Hinckley spoiled the party with a surprise 3-0 win at the home of the champions.
