I just cannot believe how many anti-green people we have in Swindon and the surrounding area, the latest being the people of Watchfield and Shrivenham protesting against a wind farm.

Before that we had the protest against an environmental friendly power station between Swindon and Cricklade burning nothing more harmful than willow.

Then the cement works at Westbury was criticised for burning old tyres, which were being buried in millions and which, incidentally, burn cleaner than fossil fuels at the correct temperatures.

In Swindon we have people protesting already against the use of an old rubbish tip for a football stadium and sports complex. I thought we were committed to using brownfield sites before green fields, and you cannot get much browner than an old tip.

It's a pity the new police station couldn't have been sited there as well, instead of on green fields east of the A419.

Now that the go-ahead has been given for the southern development and the university site near to Coate Water, perhaps Terry King and all the people of Swindon should combine their efforts to prevent any more building east of the A419, now and for the foreseeable future.

After the northern and southern development is complete surely we will have enough houses for a town of this size, unless of course we are expecting a big influx from eastern europe when the EU expands.
