SAM PARKIN admits he is disappointed to have been overlooked by his peers at the PFA awards for a second successive year but is determined to make it third time lucky, as a Town representative in the Division One team of the year.

Town's leading scorer was hotly-tipped to find a place in the Division Two side after missing out in 2002-03 but was edged out by Brighton's Leon Knight and Blackpool's Scott Taylor.

Both have scored more goals than Parkin this season but they have taken more games to reach their tallies and Parkin insists the omission will simply spur him on to greater efforts this season.

He said: "Obviously I'm a little bit disappointed that I missed out again and also surprised that not one of us featured in the team.

"There were certainly a few surprises in the Division Two team of the year.

"I feel I've had another decent season, in what was always going to be a big year for me.

"I scored a lot of goals last season but people were asking whether I could do it again.

"My profile has probably been raised a bit and there's certainly been more speculation about me.

"It's not the end of the world though. There's still plenty to play for this season and while it's great to receive individual recognition, there are a group of players here at Swindon who are desperate to achieve something this year.

"As for the PFA thing, well let's hope it's a case of third time lucky and I make it into the First Division team of the year."

Parkin was rested for Town's match with Oldham Athletic on Saturday. The decision surprised a lot of fans but Parkin insists selection choices are up to the manager.

He said: "The gaffer picks the team but as a player of course you want to play in every match.

"I've made no secret of the fact that I'd like to reach 50 goals for Swindon this season and I'm confident I can still achieve that."

Parkin and his colleagues were due back at the club for training today as manager Andy King begins preparations for the clash at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

As a self-confessed QPR fan Parkin is looking forward to Saturday's sell-out clash at Loftus Road and feels the 2,900 Town fans making the trip have a big part to play.

Town will have just over 2,900 supporters roaring them on, a prospect which delights Parkin.

He said: "QPR fans are very vocal but our fans have been fantastic this year.

"The noise they made in the wins at Luton and Wycombe was tremendous. Hopefully it will be the same again on Saturday."

Despite the 'sold out' signs going up in the ticket office shortly after the conclusion of the Oldham clash on Saturday, Town were due to receive an extra 60 normal and 116 restricted view tickets from Queens Park Rangers today.

Town reserves entertain Bournemouth at the County Ground tomorrow, kick off 2pm.
