Ref. 30093-10STUDENTS gave up their spare time to lend the Swindon and Highworth Lions a helping hand.
Around 40 pupils at Warneford School, Shrivenham Road, Highworth, returned to the classrooms over the weekend to pack thousands of Green Cross canisters.
The small plastic containers carry forms for people to fill in with personal information, which could save their lives in an emergency.
The forms, intended for the elderly or vulnerable, list the holder's name, next of kin or friends to contact, allergies or regular medication, doctors' details and medical information.
The emergency services are aware of the scheme and know to look out for special Green Cross stickers on the holder's front door and also the canister, which should be kept in the fridge.
Kelly Chatfield, 12, was among the volunteers.
She said: "It sounds like a good idea and could save someone's life. I am happy to help out."
Tom Maskell, 12, was equally keen. He said: "We've filled hundreds of canisters. I would do it again. If I wasn't here, I would probably be bored."
The Green Cross canisters are free and will be available from the Co-op supermarket, in Highworth, as of this week.
Deuce McBride, head of careers at Warneford School said: "Everyone has worked their socks off filling these canisters. They have really enjoyed helping the community."
