RECENT articles have described problems involving a very small gang of youths who have been causing damage and annoyance in the centre of Highworth, as in other towns and villages around the country.
Interviews live on local radio with Mark, a youth worker funded by the Community Church, and with our policeman put the facts clearly in perspective. There are hundreds of sensible, well behaved youngsters in Highworth, working hard for their own futures and to improve their environment. Our festival brochure, to be delivered to every house soon, includes details of dozens of youth activities. This can also be viewed in full on our website at: www.highworthfestival.ik.com
Our problem is nothing new and there is no permanent solution because as each generation of vandals grows out of these ways, a new lot replaces them.
There is no way to educate them or some parents because they are unable to value education or to understand the damage they are doing to their future prospects of an enjoyable and useful life.
