SALISBURY City manager Nick Holmes has told his players to turn on the style on Saturday when they entertain Chatham Town in their final league fixture of the campaign.

Holmes admitted he was "very disappointed" with his side's display in a dire 1-0 defeat at Sittingbourne last week and has urged his charges to reproduce the kind of form that helped secure promotion to the Premier Division.

"What made it worse was the fact that so many people travelled to see us play and we gave them nothing to cheer about all day. The only thing our fans enjoyed on Saturday was the sunshine. I think a lot of our lads were too busy thinking of their summer holidays. We had a few words afterwards."

The City boss added: "To be fair, the pitch was abysmal. Most of it was rock hard, but some places were covered in surface water.

"But good sides deal with that and just get on with it. I was very disappointed we didn't. At half-time I could have taken eight of them off, it really was that bad.

"In their defence, they've been so good all season and we couldn't have asked for more from them.

"They've always worked hard, but maybe a few thought as we'd already got promotion there was nothing to play for.

"Hopefully we'll give our fans something to shout about on Saturday. We owe them one that's for sure."
