NYTHE Primary School earned a visit from Swindon Town midfielder David Duke, despite seeing their dreams of winning a national six-a-side competition dashed at Lilleshall's National Sports Centre.
County Ground star Duke handed over medals to the side, won had won through the Swindon, Wiltshire and South West regional finals to earn their shot at the National Small Schools Soccer Sixes title.
Accompanied by coach Mick Redford, head teacher Debbie Kalynka and a coachload of supporters, Nythe featured in a competition contested in two leagues of four teams, the winner of each contesting a semi-final with the runner-up from the other.
Their opening game was against Itchingfield School from Horsham, West Sussex.
After a goalless first half, a rasping drive from Joshua Ainscow found the net to clinch a 1-0 victory.
St Charles School from Leicester were the next opponents and they opened the scoring.
Nythe responded positively and James Evans showed composure on the ball before unleashing a powerful strike to level the match ending 1-1.
St John Bosco School, from Liverpool, one of the favourites to win the tournament were next and raced into a two-goal lead.
A third followed, and although George Green volleyed a reply for Nythe it was 4-1 at half-time.
Two more goals in the second half cost Nythe dearly, as they lost out on a semi-final spot on goal difference.
St John Bosco went on to win the tournament.
