THE first one-way road system in Pewsey could be in place soon in Wilcot Road. For years the parish council has been pressing Wiltshire County Council for a traffic management scheme for Wilcot Road.
The busy street carries traffic into the village from Devizes and has both Pewsey Vale and Pewsey Junior schools along it.
The road also has the village leisure centre, swimming pool and a major recycling business.
Highways engineers came up with a suggestion of one way traffic between Rawlins Road and the main Marlborough A345 road.
On Tuesday chairman Alec Carder told the parish council that one stumbling block had been removed with the Wilts and Dorset bus company withdrawing its objection to a one-way system.
Coun Colin Lampard said the bus company and police had been the two main objectors.
The council would now have to find out if the police, like the bus company, had also changed their minds.
