NEW Chippenham skipper Charlie Griffin praised the attitudes of the club's fringe players who have helped spark a mini revival in recent weeks.
The striker was handed the captain's armband for the Wiltshire Premier Shield final win over his former club Swindon Town and retained the role for the crucial victory against Moor Green on Saturday.
He is enjoying leading the team out but paid tribute to the entire squad for giving themselves a chance of making the play-offs when they travel to Hinckley this weekend.
"Someone was just saying to me I've still got a 100 per cent record as skipper and it's not bad I think,'' he said.
"It was a good result against Moor Green and it was much-needed. We came out fired up and I think the boys who played on the Monday night against Swindon haven't let the team down after being given the nod again.
"All credit to them because they've worked hard all season and now they've got their chance they're taking it.''
Griffin felt the Bluebirds got the all breaks against Moor Green but still had to work hard to make sure they took full advantage.
"It was another great result and the ball was running for us a little bit up front. We were playing one-twos which were helping and we switched the play a little more,'' he added.
"There were a few chances that they had but we looked solid enough and looked like we were going to keep a clean sheet.
"That's two clean sheets in a row and hopefully this weekend at Hinckley we can do something and hopefully other teams will mess up.''
Going into the interval Griffin said the Chippenham dressing room had not under-estimated the importance of the next goal in the game.
"At half-time we said the third goal was going to be vital. Either we were going to score and win it or they were going to score and get back into it,'' he continued.
"It was a hot day and when the third went in they had to chase the game and we were able to relax a little bit.
"In the end we were comfortable and Beano got a hat-trick and that will give him confidence. It is all ready for next week now.''
The vital third goal came from the boot of Griffin when he took the responsibilty from the penalty sport. At that stage his strike partner Constable was on two goals but the captain admitted he had no intention of giving up the chance of a goal for himself.
"I was skipper for the day again and although Beano was on a hat-trick I thought nobody was taking it off me.
"I wasn't at all nervous on my penalty. I just put it in the net and that was it for us.''
Griffin said he is now looking forward to Saturday's trip to Hinckley and admitted he is expecting some needle in the game following the volatile clash between the two sides at Hardenhuish Park at the end of February.
"Some of the results on Saturday were funny and I think everybody down here is still right in it so we will have to see what happens this weekend.
"We beat Hinckley at home 2-1 so I think it's going to be quite an entertaining game with a bit of needle because I think they are going to want to kick us a bit. We'll prepare right and get ready for Hinckley.
"After losing 6-1 and 4-1 we took that very hard. But to come back and win 2-0 and 4-0 is superb. We've kept two clean sheets and that's what it's all about.''
