CORSHAM just edged a tight game against Street but the result was enough to guarantee them a fifth-place finish in their first season under the management of Colin Bush.
The former Chippenham Town assistant boss was not at the game on Saturday but assistant John Woods guided them to victory over a workmanlike Street side.
Dave Kilmurray produced the goods in the 65th minute.
Woods said: "We didn't look like a team challenging for fifth position. We made hard work of it and it seemed like the holdiay season had already set in.
"I was not best pleased with first half and I had to lose my temper a little bit during the interval. But it seemed to have the desired effect and the modest improvement we made in the second half turned out to be enough to win us the three points.''
Both sides failed to shine in a subdued first half that ended goalless.
The half-time tongue-lashing from Woods served to fire up the home side in the second half and they went close to taking the lead on a number of occasions.
Kilmurray did well to beat a defender and then saw his shot well saved by the goalkeeper's legs. The rebound fell to Alan Griffin but he put it wide.
The miss was not costly though as Corsham did get their noses in front a minute later. Frankie Coleman did well on the wing and after advancing to the by-line he cut the ball back into the six yard box where Kilmurray applied the finishing touch.
Corsham nearly made it 2-0 close to the end but Gary Blackwood could not finish a headed opportunity.
On Saturday Corsham complete their league campaign with a trip to sixth-placed Willand.
There is no pressure on the game though as with one game left Corsham are four points behind fourth-placed Clyst and seven ahead of Willand.
Woods said: "We will have no pressure on us and will go there to enjoy it but Willand are a good side and have some lively strikers in Everett and Edby.'
We have been really pleased with this season especially after the start we had losing six in ten games.
"But since then in 25 games we have lost only two and our surge up the table has been relentless.
"It's not always been pretty and we have had to grind out results at times. Saturday was a prime example of that.''
