CORSHAM suffered heartbreak after they twice came from behind on to lose in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
In front of a crowd of 522 at Chippenham Town's Hardenhuish Park, Corsham and Trowbridge contested a highly entertaining final.
The Wiltshire League side took the lead in the first half against the run of play through Ricky Trott.
Corsham levelled in the second half when Daniel Barnes put through his own net. Trowbridge thought they had won it in the 80th minute when Gordon Saunderson scored.
But Alan Griffin forced extra-time with a dramatic last minute header.
The extra 30 minutes ended goalless and in the lottery of the penalty shoot-out Trowbidge goalkeeper Adam Sheppard emerged as the hero after Scott Lye missed for Corsham and and he stepped up to smash home the winner.
Corsham boss Nobby Bush said his side had not performed on the day but the defeat did not detract from their superb season.
"For the 500 people in the crowd it was an entertaining final," he said.
"But I felt we didn't do ourselves justice. We should have been out of sight because we had chances but the tide just turned and they sneaked a goal with their only chance in the first half.
"We were under pressure but got a goal only to shoot ourselves in the foot again. Then we got one back again but we could just never get ourselves in front. If we had done that I think we would have won it but that's cup football for you."
Bush said the league had always been his side's main priority.
"I was disappointed with the way we performed because for the last 20 or so games we have performed a lot higher than that," he saidd. "But I spoke to the players afterwards and told them that it doesn't take any gloss off our season.
"You cannot take away a record of 25 games in the league with only two defeats."
From the kick-off it was Corsham who were creating all the chances and Trowbridge had to look to hit them on the counter.
But Corsham lacked quality in their final pass or shot and when Trowbridge attacked they knocked the ball around confidently.
Chippenham Town target Alan Griffin was in the thick of things up for Corsham and he saw two efforts in the first five minutes go close.
Jack Cullis had an effort saved by Sheppard but it was Trowbridge who opened the scoring on 16 minutes in virtually their first attack of the game.
Gavin Eyre sent over a far-post cross and Ricky Trott had space to find the back of the net despite goalkeeper Craig Chaplin getting a fingertip to his header.
Griffin continued to try his luck without success and failed to score from two long-range free-kicks.
Scott Lye had a volley saved while for Trowbridge Dave Percival showed some good footwork as his team held onto their lead at half-time.
After the restart Corsham came out and forced Trowbridge onto the back-foot for sustained spells.
Efforts from Cullis and Frankie Coleman were off target but Bush's side did level in the 70th minute.
Coleman swung a corner into the heart of the six-yard box and Barnes' attempted clearance flew into his own net.
Lye went close with a curler but Trowbridge hit back with what they thought was the winner in the 82nd minute.
Eyre chipped a delightful free-kick into the Corsham area and Saunderson volleyed past Chaplin from close range.
But Corsham refused to give up and they forced extra time from a 90th minute set-piece.
Sheppard had denied Dave Kilmurray with a superb save but from Carl Bush's corner Griffin rose to head home at the far post.
Both sides had chances in extra time but legs were starting to tire and neither side could find a winner and it went to a dreaded penalty shoot-out.
Successful efforts from Trott and Matt Minnis for Trowbridge were matched by Corsham's Cullis and Griffin.
Eyre put Trowbridge 3-2 up but Lye was then denied by a superb save from Sheppard.
Percival extended Trowbridge's lead and although Russell Lodge kept Corsham alive goalkeeper Sheppard then scored his side's final kick to claim the trophy.
