TWO Swindon schools have joined a scheme to get youngsters caring for the environment.
Hreod Parkway and Mountford Manor have both agreed to take on Forest School status.
Organisers hope pupils will develop confidence and self-esteem through working together on a range of woodland conservation tasks.
The initiative aims to help The Great Western Community Forest.
Started more than 10 years ago, the Community Forest is fast taking shape with many trees now approaching maturity.
It covers 168 square miles and stretches from Wootton Bassett to Faringdon, the Downs and the Thames.
It is hoped in time, that the area will become a mix of woodland, open space, farmland and nature area for Swindonians to enjoy.
The Forest projects will be funded through the Government's New Opportunities Fund.
