A VIRTUOSO kicking display from fly-half Richard Taylor led Chippenham to victory in the Dorset & Wilts Cup Final for the fourth year running.

With both sides starting nervously, it was Wimborne who took the first ten minutes with some excellent play. Chippenham appeared a little slow out of the blocks but displayed some great defending to keep the scores level.

Once into their stride, Chippenham began to move into the opposition territory.

Chippenham's forwards started to dominate the ruck and lineouts, to provide some good quick ball to Taylor, who was able to control the game.

The first try for Chippenham came from a lineout. The ball was moved quickly to the backs, leading to a miss move with full-back Matthew Whitehead joining the line.

Whitehead took the ball at pace and crashed over unopposed close to the posts.

A similar move from a ruck on the other side of the pitch, with quick hands led to Michael Mohan completing a scoring opportunity in the corner. It was converted by Lee Audie.

Chippenham continued to apply the pressure in the second period but Wimborne got back into the game with a penalty.

With five minutes of the game remaining, an interception by Peter Rawson on the half-way line led to a sprint to the line. A neat side-step on the full-back was required to open up the line and complete the try under the posts.

Audie converted to make it 19-7.

Chippenham U14 15 Wimborne U14 0

THE U14s matched their elder counterparts' with an emphatic win in their Dorset & Wilts Cup Final to clinch a hat-trick of trophies this season. They have already won the Bristol Combination Cup and The Wiltshire Cup.

Chippenham started the game brightly and could have scored early on but were held out by some committed tackling from the Wimborne defence. Wimborne then rallied and pressed on the Chippenham line for a period.

Chippenham held fast and then moved ahead through skipper Tom Boreham's 35-metre penalty.

Just before half-time Boreham went over for a try after Mike Boddington drove into the defence.

Wimborne came out for the second half with all guns blazing but Chippenham were never really troubled.

The game was virtually over when fly-half Cameron Brown jinked past two defenders to score under the posts , allowing Boreham a simple conversion.

Coach Jerry Field said: "The boys had had an outstanding season built on the committed hard work put in by all the members of the squad.

"They have not lost a competitive match all season, have won three trophies and have beaten all the teams in the area, including Bristol and Bath.

"This win puts the icing on the cake for us all, and for the coaches, the most pleasing aspect was the fact that we did not concede a single point in the game.''

Chippenham's U12 squad made the three hour journey to Pendine, West Wales recently for a short tour.

While there and staying at the Morfa Bay Activity Centre in Pendine, they played one and a half matches.

In the the first against Whitland Chippenham conceded a converted try but woke up and played good, attacking rugby to run out 35-7 winners.

The 2nd team faced Whitland Under 11s and to their surprise and that of the Whitland coaches watching, Chippenham lost 35-0.

The Whitland coaching staff even commented on their surprise at the level of rugby that their U11 displayed.

The Saturday saw the whole squad, including coaching staff and parents, take part in an assault course, climbing, abseiling and body boarding in Carmarthen bay.

Sunday morning saw the tour come to a close with a final match against Narbeth.

It was a slightly disappointing fixture as Narbeth could only raise eight under 12s, the rest of the team was made up of members of their U13 squad.

Chippenham's first team played the first half, only losing by a couple of tries to nil. Their efforts were not reflected in the points gained.

In the second half, Chippenham's second team succumbed to a flurry of tries but to their credit, they never gave up or let their heads drop and eventually scoring their only try courtesy of Jay Jennings with help from Henry Adams and the rest of the team in support.

U12 coach Alun Bryant said: "We are all very grateful to the Morfa Bay Activity Centre for the way they have put this tour together for us.

"The whole weekend has been a great success and the squad can now look forward to joining Chippenham's junior playing section next season.''
