DEVIZES and Chippenham players will be feeling some nerves today as they prepare to play their end of season cup finals at Premiership Bath RFC's famous ground tonight.

Devizes will take on Stothert and Pitt in the Bath Combination Plate final at The Rec at 6pm.

After that Chippenham will take to the hallowed turf as the go head to head with Keynsham in the final of the Bath Combination Cup.

Devizes skipper James Gaiger said the Plate final would be a nice day out for the club's players and supporters.

"In terms of the competition I guess it wasn't at the top of our priorities at the start of the season," he said.

"We would have rather been in the main cup but the first round was on World Cup final day and we were a little distracted and lost to Bath University. Having said that we have played a few games to get to the Plate final and it is a nice day out at the end of the season."

Gaiger said the Devizes side were looking forward to playing at the Premiership venue and would be going all out for a win.

"The Rec is a Premiership ground and not many sides get to play anywhere better than this," he added.

"We have been training hard for the last few weeks and this has kept our season going.

"I don't know much about the opposition except they are a strong side."

Centre Mike Thomas is likely to miss out with a knee injury but Dan Leighfield could be handed his first team debut.

Chippenham coach Robbie Spiers said lifting the trophy would complete a satisfying season for his side. "This game is massive," he said. "It's one of our two main objectives for the season. We wanted a top four finish in the league and ended up fourth and we wanted to retain this trophy as well.

"Our more experienced players played at The Rec in recent years but the newer lads are really excited about it. We know about Keynsham and they know about us. They have struggled in the league higher than us and we have done well so it could be quite even."

Spiers said his side were virtually at full-strength and added that he would be telling his players to treat the match like any other.

"All lads are getting excited about it but once the first whistle goes there will be some nerves because it's under lights and there will be a big crowd," he continued.

"But once they take first hit it will feel like any other game and then they can get on with the match."

A coach is leaving from Devizes Sports Club at 3.30pm today and Chippenham RFC have a coach leaving Allington Field at 6.30pm.

Both clubs say there will be a big demand for seats and supporters should check there are some still available before turning up at the grounds.
