BUDDING archaeologists can now hunt for treasure on Salisbury Plain after a grant was awarded to the Westbury Area Community Development Trust.
Volunteers from the trust will now be using metal detectors to find Roman coins and ancient artifacts on the Plain.
An exhibition of the trust's work will be held at Westbury Junior School on Wednesday, at 7pm, after a grant of £22,000 was awarded for the Sustain The Plain initiative.
Trust secretary Alison Irving said: "It is all very exciting, we don't know what we will find.
"We could find Roman coins and ancient artifacts and the site of the Battle of Ethandene is nearby.
"All the finds will be properly documented and displayed in the new visitor centre being set up in Westbury High Street.
"There could also be economic benefits such as an increasing number of tourists and the setting up of bed and breakfasts, but we are starting off small to begin with."
Volunteers can sign up with the trust for the Dig for History initiative on Wednesday night.
