CHIPPENHAM captain Jason Searle has persuaded West Indian Test star Jimmy Adams to make a one-off appearance for Wiltshire.
The former West Indies captain has been included in the Wiltshire team for Wednesday's C and G Trophy clash against Nottinghamshire at Westbury.
The signing is a huge boost for Wiltshire as they prepare for their first match against first class opposition since Ian Botham's Durham side appeared at Trowbridge in 1993.
Searle, the Wiltshire vice-captain played against Adams in club cricket in the North East and he believes the capture of the left-hander is a major coup.
Said Searle: "When I was playing cricket for Durham I was also playing for Sunderland in the North East League and played against Jimmy a few times.
"Since then I have kept in touch and so when we heard Notts were coming I made contact and he was happy to come and help for this match.
"It is a great chance for us all to play in the same team as someone of Jimmy's talent. It is great news to have him here and hopefully it will be a big crowd puller."
Adams, who scored 3,012 test runs in his career, is currently playing club cricket for St Anne's in Lancashire.
Nottinghamshire's visit to Leighton Green will give cricket fans the chance to see a number of top players.
The Nottinghamshire team will include Australian Test leg spinner Stuart MacGill, who recently decided to pull out of a tour of Zimbabwe on moral grounds, fellow Aussie batsman David Hussey, former England batsman Jason Gallian and all-rounder Kevin Pieterson, the man of the series on the England A winter tour.
"I am looking forward to the match it is a great opportunity to play against the best," said Searle.
"They have a couple of quality overseas players and it will be good to pit our wits against them. It is the biggest game I have ever played for Wiltshire."
The 28-year-old was on the Durham staff in 1993 when they beat Wiltshire at Trowbridge but is not willing to write Wiltshire's chances off yet.
He said: "Games like this are the biggest you can play in and then obviously if we win it the games will get bigger and bigger. I am not overly optimistic about getting a result but we will have to see what happens.
"What I would say is that at this stage there is always one minor side who go close to carrying out a shock so maybe that will be us this time."
Notts' coach Mike Newell has promised he will be bringing a full strength side and will be urging his players not take the match lightly.
He said: "I will make sure we are focused on the job ahead because we can't afford to be complacent.
"Last year we played Lincolnshire and although we won we didn't play very well. We know there is potential of an upset.
"By signing Jimmy Adams Wiltshire have signalled their intentions so we will be well prepared."
A bumper crowd is expected and match-day parking is being provided at £5 per car. Tickets cost £8 if bought on the day or £7 if bought before. OAPs and under 16s can get in for £4.
