A TROWBRIDGE father is behind a bid to launch a UK version of a chart-topping American band.

Will Barton, 46, has secured the rights to launch the British version of Dreamstars and is appealing for young pop wannabes from across Wiltshire to fill the last three spots.

Mr Barton's 11-year-old son Oliver and fellow band members Lajeurne Adger and Emily Williamson are ready to launch their bid for a pop career.

Management company Project 404 brought the Dreamstars concept across the Atlantic after the US version of the band stormed the charts.

Despite an initial launch attempt falling flat, Mr Barton said he believes Dreamstars UK will reach a top 10 placing.

Securing the rights to the name and songs, Mr Barton plans to hold auditions at Melksham's British Legion Club later this month, and is appealing for nine to 12-year-old's from across west Wiltshire to strut their stuff and win a place in the band.

Talking about the group's "brilliant potential", Mr Barton, of The Orchard, Semington, said: "Dreamstars in America had a string of very successful hits. We have obtained the rights and are ready to release the songs, when we have secured a deal.

"The concept is pretty much like S Club Juniors but they will have their own look and have access to songs which no-one else will have.

"We want the three existing members to interview and audition for the other three places."

More than 30 kids were involved in the Dreamstars project when it was first launched in the south west, but were disillusioned when the project folded.

Mr Barton believes it will be different this time around.
