SKATEBOARDERS in Melksham will have to wait a little longer before their new skateboard park is up and running.
Problems with surfacing the site at the King George V playing field mean it will not open this month, but should be ready in a few weeks.
Yvonne Ashe, one of the campaigners behind the park, said: "They are just putting down the final surface at the moment and the ramps are due probably next week. The kids are upbeat and excited now because they know it really is going to happen."
Work on the £140,000 project, which is expected to be used by skateboarders from miles around, started in February.
Much of the work has been carried out by volunteers who have donated time and expertise free of charge.
Funding for the project was raised by Mrs Ashe along with fellow campaigner Jance Viveash and a group of enthusiastic youngsters.
They will be able to use the park as soon as the ramps and fencing have been installed and inspectors give it the go-ahead. An official opening ceremony is planned later in the year.
Bristol skateboarding star Danny Wainright, who has won the international King of Street contest for the past two years, is lined up for the grand opening.
Display teams and bands are also organised for the event to make it into a big party for the whole town.
