NEIL Kirkpatrick admitted he fears for his side's future after watching them prove their point in the Wiltshire Senior Cup final on Tuesday night.

Having already knocked out Screwfix and Hellenic Premier League sides Melksham Town and Pewsey Vale on their way to the final, Trowbridge again showed they can mix it a higher level with a battling victory over Corsham.

But, although looking odds on to win the Wiltshire League title, promotion to the Screwfix League is still uncertain due to concerns over their Woodmarsh ground.

They are waiting for planning permission to build a new stand in a bid to meet the ground grading criteria but are in limbo as to where they will playing next season.

Kirkpatrick said: "If we don't progress I do not know what will happen. The town of Trowbridge should be ashamed if we are not granted promotion.

"Players can't stick around for ever because they are capable and deserve to play higher league football.

"The whole set-up is in place from under six-year-olds upwards, but I am scared to death of what might happen if we don't go up.

The whole club could go belly-up and that is a disgrace for the county town of Wiltshire."

Kirkpatrick was full of praise for the spirit his side showed on Tuesday night and felt justice was done in the shoot-out.

He said: "My lads have shown so much guts against a big and powerful Corsham side. They had hearts of lions tonight and have done all season.

"Corsham were always dangerous from set pieces but apart from that they didn't really trouble us.

"We didn't deserve to lose and thankfully the result went our way in the end. It has been a long time for the fans and it was just a brilliant night."

The Trowbridge boss also singled out 16-year-old Adam Shackell for a special mention.

He said: "He was immense. He hardly gave John Woods a kick all night and he has been around a bit.

"He has a very bright future and I just hope that will be in the Screwfix League with us next season."
